Prison Visiting
What do I need to do in order to see my husband?
I can only answer this question in a general way because each state differs in their visiting rules and policies.
Here are some general guidelines for prison visiting:1. There may be a period when you first begin your sentence that visiting isn't allowed. You may have to complete part of your reception and orientation program before you can begin having visitors.
2. You will have to go complete a visitor
application. All visitors will be screened and approved before being allowed on an inmate's visiting list.
3. Each prison has
specific days and hours that one can visit. There are rules that govern what you can and cannot bring into a visitation room. There is a
dress code which governs what you can and cannot where to a visitation room.
4. Some inmates may have '
contact' visits which means that you can be in the same room. Some inmates may only have '
non-contact' visits which means you will be separated by glass and will not be able to touch one another. Some jails now have
video visitation which is visiting done through a web cam at the facility.
5. Click to the state on the left and look for the specific prison he is housed in. Most state correctional facilities and many county jails will have visitation information on their web site.
6. If not available online, just
call the facility and ask them what you must do in order to visit and they will walk you through the process.
