Prison Contraband and Cell Phones

What will happen if I forgot my cell phone in my back pocket and entered the facility with it?

Bringing a cell phone into a prison or jail can have serious consequences. Some facilities will permanently revoke your visiting privileges. Some states have passed laws and consider it a misdemeanor or a felony if you are caught with one.

Why do prisons take this so seriously? All inmate calls must be monitored and recorded for security. Prisons only allow calls to be placed to approved telephone numbers. Cell phones allow inmates to bypass the security measures of the prison.

One should always double check when going to visit to be sure that they leave in their car any cell phones or other items not allowed into the prison.
