My uncle was released 2 years ago

by Rammy
(MA, USA)

About 10 years ago, my uncle was sent to jail for 8 years for robbing a gas station.

The day of his release, my entire family went to pick him up, he had no place to go. We took him home, and he didn’t talk much. He had absolutely no emotion and he seemed very disturbed.

After about a month, he got a job interview at a grocery store. Ever since then he has been working at the same grocery store almost every day. As the days went by, he started to talk more and more to us, and shared some things that happened in the past. We never knew exactly what happened to him at the prison, but it seemed to have set him straight.

Every month, he volunteers once or twice at the Salvation Army to help people in need, and donates money and clothes to them too. Being in prison has changed him, and I don’t think he will rob a store ever again.

Employment
by: Sam

Rammy,
Thanks for taking the time to contribute. Employment is key. Your mentioning of your uncle's volunteerism is interesting as well. I work with a lot of guys coming out of prison and a key indicator of a successful reentry is when a guy is volunteering to do something for someone else not getting something in return. I hope things continue to go well for your uncle.
