My Uncle Came Home Last February

by Casey
(Madera, CA)

It's been almost a year since my uncle was released from jail for repeat drug offenses. He's been clean ever since.

I think a lot of what has helped with his success has been the tremendous amount of support that our family has given him. He's been staying with his ex-girlfriend, who, even though they are no longer together, has been a great friend and support to him. He also started going back to school. I think that once he set a goal for himself, and had something positive and constructive to do with his life, he didn't need to go back to drugs to kill time or get him through the day.

I hope he keeps up with his positive outlook on life. He says he'll never go back to drugs. I know that not everyone means it when they say that, but I have a lot of faith in him, and I believe that he's on the right track now and won't look back.

Support and Education
by: Sam

Casey,
Thanks for the contribution of your uncle's story.
I think you are right that a key has been your family's support. Not all have it. And continuing education is another positive. Hope things continue to go well.
