My Sister Was Released In June

by Nicole
(Georgia)

My sister was in prison for 2 years on several different drug charges, etc. Before she went to prison, she had been on a downward slope. She was out of touch with herself and our family, and was not like old self at all.

While she was in prison she changed drastically. She was reading her Bible constantly, and doing everything she could to redeem herself.

When she got out of prison, she moved back in with our parents to get herself away from her old neighborhood, which was saturated with her old friends who were in and out of prison themselves. I know it was hard for her to break those friendships, but it really was best for her.

My family and I have just stuck by her and helped her to make new friends. We forgave her of her past and have been trying very hard to see that she is taking steps in the right direction. I think that for her, the most important thing is having her family for support. If she would have come out of prison and we would have turned our back on her, there is no doubt in my mind that she would have ended up back in there.

Family Support
by: Sam

Nicole,
Thanks for contributing. Family support is crucial but some find it difficult when their loved ones are seemingly on a merry go round in and out of prison. Glad things are going well.
