EX

My experience is personal... the story is personal... it is my reality. Being released from incarceration is in itself a different world. Remember the story of the Karate Kid? Keep that in mind when dealing with the newly released. Those in training do not need to know that they are in training.

It worked for me having spent eighteen(18)years serving a sentence because I could/would not turn into a rat (snitch). I now know that my cousin should have been sent to prison instead of me.

Being released from incarceration involves making a conscious choice/decision to remain free. Being involved with people and groups of people that do not engage in criminal activity is an excellent connection. We are all known by the company we keep.

I think that all releasees should be relocated to a different social locale. Start new somewhere else and become someone new.

Thanks for telling your story. One of the more maddening things about the "system" is the many localities that require you to go back to the county/city that you "fell" from. Yes, going back to old neighborhoods/friends is a great temptation to many and they fail. For those who can relocate to a "new" place, I would always recommend that. For those who cannot, it is imperative that they hook up with a mentor or a group of new friends to help you through the transition and start over.
Glad to hear things are going well, wish you the best.
